Ravens HC Jesse Minter: ‘Potential’ To Add Free Agent WR

Baltimore manhandled Indianapolis in a 41-23 blowout in Week 1, but the Ravens’ receiving corps did not escape Sunday unscathed. After losing rookie third-round pick Ja’Kobi Lane to a fractured wrist, there is a possibility the Ravens will make an outside addition.

Speaking with the media on Monday, head coach Jesse Minter said “there is potential” for the team to sign a free agent receiver (via Jamison Hensley of ESPN). At the same time, though, he expressed confidence in Devontez Walker and fourth-round rookie Elijah Sarratt. Walker was out Sunday with a groin injury, while Sarratt was a healthy inactive.
Zay Flowers, the Ravens’ No. 1 receiver, torched the Colts and inexperienced slot corner Justin Walley during a five-catch, 150-yard first half. Flowers then sat out the second half with a hamstring issue, though it doesn’t seem serious. Minter said Flowers is day-to-day, and he added the Ravens are still gathering information on Lane’s injury (via Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic).
With Lane and Flowers limited in Indianapolis, Baltimore finished the afternoon with the healthy trio of Rashod Bateman, Chris Moore and LaJohntay Wester. Moore is the only member of the group who isn’t on the 53-man roster. Elevated from the practice squad, he contributed a 53-yard reception. The Ravens can only elevate the 33-year-old Moore two more times before they will have to sign him to their roster. Xavier Guillory is also on their practice squad.
With the season now underway, it’s possible (perhaps likely) any potential free agent pickup would also have to settle for a practice squad role. 2025 Raven DeAndre Hopkins, Darius Slayton, Brandin Cooks, Zay Jones, Curtis Samuel, Sterling Shephard and Tyler Lockett are among the notable veterans who are still without contracts. Hopkins is now on Georgia Tech’s coaching staff, but he has not retired from playing. While it is unclear if the Ravens are interested in Hopkins or any of the other available wideouts mentioned, Minter’s comments suggest they are open to bolstering their depth ahead of a Week 2 meeting with the Saints.
