Giants CB Paulson Adebo Activated Off IR

The Giants will get some much-needed reinforcement in their secondary this weekend. According to Dan Duggan of The Athletic, one of New York’s five cornerbacks on injured reserve has been activated, and that cornerback is starter Paulson Adebo. In a corresponding move, linebacker Tremaine Edmunds has been placed on IR after suffering a torn muscle in his chest and being declared out for the season.
Adebo is midway through the three-year, $54MM deal he signed in free agency to head to New York. That pact has only yielded 13 appearances so far, but a run of availability will now be in store. A knee injury has kept Adebo out of the fold for the past five weeks.
On Wednesday, the Giants designated the sixth-year veteran for return. That allowed him to return to practice and opened his 21-day activation period. At the first opportunity to do so, the Giants have opted to being Adebo back onto the active roster. The team has six IR activations remaining this season.
New York has relied on Greg Newsome, Deonte Banks and second-round rookie Colton Hood at the cornerback spot early this season. That trio has helped the team rank fifth in passing yards allowed per game (190) to date, and continued strong play in that regard would be key given the Giants’ injury situation. Getting Adebo back will give defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson and Co. another option in the secondary.
So far during his time with the Giants, Adebo has totaled 76 tackles, one interception and eight pass deflections. The former Saint is due to carry a cap charge of $20.32MM next year, and none of his base pay for 2027 is currently guaranteed. With a $3MM roster bonus due in March, Adebo’s future could be shaped in large part by his ability to remain on the field for the rest of this season.
In other roster news, the Giants made receiver Jalin Hyatt and safety Raheem Layne gameday elevations for Week 7. They will be eligible to play against the Texans on Sunday as a result.
