The Patriots are getting wide receiver A.J. Brown back from injured reserve in Week 6, but another of their notable offensive weapons could miss time. Running back TreVeyon Henderson has a high ankle sprain that is expected to shelve him for multiple games, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Henderson will not require surgery, per Schefter, and an IR stint may not be necessary in this case. Although Henderson confirmed the sprain to Mike Reiss of ESPN and other reporters on Friday, he managed to practice on a limited basis this week.
The Patriots list Henderson as questionable on their injury report, leaving open the possibility that he could play against the AFC East rival Jets on Sunday. If Henderson can’t go, the Patriots will elevate Lan Larison from the practice squad to join Rhamondre Stevenson and Corey Kiner as their backfield options, Reiss relays.
While splitting time with Stevenson in 2025, Henderson impressed during a 17-game rookie season. The second-round pick from Ohio State ran for 911 yards on 180 carries (good for a robust 5.1 average per attempt) and scored nine touchdowns. He also found the end zone once as a pass catcher and finished with 35 receptions for 221 yards on 42 targets. This season has not gone as smoothly for Henderson, who missed a Week 1 loss to the Seahawks with a different ankle injury and has rushed for just 163 yards on 42 attempts (3.9 YPC) in four games. He also hasn’t been as big of a factor through the air, having caught two of four targets for 22 yards.
On the other side of the ball, the 3-2 Patriots have had to make do without starting edge defender Harold Landry all season. Landry led the team in sacks (8.5) during its AFC title-winning campaign in 2025, but he began battling knee problems midway through the year. Those issues have continued into 2026, which forced the Patriots to place Landry on reserve/PUP at the end of August. While they still haven’t opened Landry’s 21-day practice window, head coach Mike Vrabel said Friday that “the plan would be for him to return at some point” (via Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald).
There were legitimate concerns over the Patriots’ pass rush entering the season, but 2025 UDFA Elijah Ponder (4.5 sacks), rookie second-rounder Gabe Jacas (1.5) and free agent addition Dre’Mont Jones (one) have helped fill Landry’s void along the edge. Jones (10th), Ponder (11th) and Jacas (22nd) all rank among Pro Football Focus’ most effective edge defenders out of 106 qualifiers. Thanks in part to that trio’s contributions, the Patriots are a respectable 12th in the NFL in pass rush win rate.
