OCTOBER 16: Hall and Mitchell will indeed be sidelined this weekend, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini, as will edge rusher Joseph Ossai and left guard Dylan Parham. In more positive news, Glenn shared that first-round tight end Kenyon Sadiq is expected to clear concussion protocol and participate fully in Friday’s practice, clearing the way for him to play on Sunday.
OCTOBER 14: After missing four games with a sprained ankle, Jets wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. will return to practice Wednesday, Connor Hughes of SNY relays. The Jets will have 21 days to activate Cooper from injured reserve.
Cooper was part of a three-first-rounder haul in this year’s draft for the Jets, who took the former Indiana standout 30th overall after selecting edge defender David Bailey (No. 2) and tight end Kenyon Sadiq (16th). The Jets traded up three spots to grab Cooper, but the injury has limited him to a meager five offensive snaps so far. He caught his lone target – a 30-yarder – in the Jets’ Week 1 win over the Titans.
Along with Cooper, the Jets’ Garrett Wilson-led receiving corps has gone most of the season without starter Adonai Mitchell. The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder racked up nine catches for 123 yards over the first two weeks of the year, but he has been out with a finger injury since then.
It turns out Mitchell underwent a procedure to address the issue, head coach Aaron Glenn said (via Brian Costello of the New York Post). Mitchell remains week to week, which is especially unfortunate considering the Jets did not place him on IR. While Mitchell continues to take up a 53-man roster spot, it appears he will sit out his fourth game in a row this Sunday.
As the 2-3 Jets prepare for an important road showdown with the AFC East rival Patriots (3-2), it looks as if they will also go without running back Breece Hall again. Hall, who injured his quadriceps in a loss to the Lions on Sept. 27, remains in week-to-week limbo, per Rich Cimini of ESPN.
The Jets used the franchise tag on Hall to prevent him from hitting the open market last March, and the sides hammered out a three-year, $43.5MM extension two months later. Hall began the season with a 22-carry, 102-yard outing in Week 1, but he combined for just 61 yards on 29 attempts in his other two appearances.
Overall, Hall has rushed for 163 yards and a touchdown on 51 carries (3.2 YPC) and added 10 catches for 102 yards. Third-year back Braelon Allen has impressed in Hall’s place, having amassed 175 yards on 38 attempts since Week 4. He had his first career 100-yard game (116) and ran for a TD in the Jets’ 17-12 victory over the Browns last Sunday.
